While the player character moves and fights monsters on the top screen, the bottom screen of the system is most often occupied by the monster sanctuary, which presumably exists inside Ellie's purse. Her health can be upgraded via collecting heart containers. Along the way she would also acquire various abilities such as a roll, wall-slide, uppercut and many others. Ellie, the player character is equipped with a long-range projectile in form of her plasma-firing bracelet, and a short range attack via a deadly purse. Monster Tale is an action/exploration platformer with RPG and virtual pet elements.
Moreover the child-rulers see Ellie and her new pet as a threat to their reign and are actively trying to kill or capture our heroes. As she is looking for a way back home, Ellie soon discovers not all is right in the monster world - a group of bratty human children led by Queen Priscilla have taken over, and are ruling the land with an iron fist. Skills spammed are Torpedo, Vertical Spike, a bit of Ghost Cascade, Mega Bomb, and friggin' Drill 'Em, Mister.Young girl, Ellie, finds a strange, glowing bracelet in the woods, and upon touching it is transported to a magical world of monsters, where she befriends Chomp - a hatchling monster of unknown origin. My excuse: I try to find ways to play a game faster.) For most of the game, I use Chomp's teenage form and get Petdozer and then Elite Guard, just because it is a pain to get. A couple of bad points about the game: a little on the short side, difficulty isn't up there, and there's LOTS of backtracking.
Some have some leeway (you can get a form without using the favorite item), while some require the specified condition (like Petdozer to Elite Guard, which requires Chomp taking damage AND receiving damage. Depending on what item Chomp uses, he will evolve into another form. This game plays like a Metroidvania game (y'arch areas, get an ability, search some moar.) There is also a pet-raising thing going on. Alongside her is her monster buddy Chomp. Maybe the last good one? Who knows?įollow Ellie as she travels the monster land and defeat some rulers.
